What is it and why would I need it?

Firstly, what is it? In simple terms structured cabling is a system of cables that is typically used for connecting up a computer network. However sometimes people do not realise that a telephone system can run across this network as well. In basic terms the cables run from wall sockets back to a panel known as a patch panel. See diagram below. These wall sockets then appear as corresponding ports on the patch panel, allowing ease of movement of equipment around the office.

Progressive Communications can provide engineers that can install Category 5e and Category 6 cabling if required. The cables are installed to very high standard and come with a full warranty. We also instal Optic fibre. Price subject to survey.

One point that should be stressed is that you do tend to get what you pay for. There can be quite a strong urge to economise but if the job is not done correctly it can be a real nightmare to put right at a later stage. Look for a good deal but avoid the pitfalls.
